Building Construction

   This programs provides high school students with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge about the field of building construction. Studies encompass blue print reading, cost estimating, and house construction both exterior and interior.

   Building Construction emphasizes safe handling of hand and power tools. Students are provided experiences to practice and develop techniques that will be required  in the trade. Applications of mathematics, science, and communications skills are incorporated into the program. Many related trades will also be taught to broaden students' understanding and abilities, including, masonry, painting, roofing, drywall finishing, cement finishing, sales, and independent contracting.

   Students are guided in preparing a resume, a portfolio, and in employment interview skills. Completion of the Building Construction Program offers graduates many options for employment in the construction industry and college credits can be awarded. There are several colleges that offer related courses leading to Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees.

Program Requirements

  • Students in 10th grade or higher

  • Satisfactory performance in:
    Attendance
    Discipline
    Academic subjects

  • Sufficient aptitude and ability for completion of the chosen sequence

  • Parent approval

  • Physical capability to pursue the chosen trade

  • Approval of the principle of CAT-South

  • Ability to accept and follow direction
