This is a two semester course for 11th and 12th grade students
that is a fundamental part of a Career Completer Program. A medical
assistant provides skillful execution of administrative, clinical, and general
duties as an integral and supportive part of a physician's practice. Clinical
skills provide an extension of the services provided by the physician. General
duties concern legal, ethical, moral, and professional conduct of health care
employees.
Introduction to Heath Careers is a prerequisite course
for this program. Program instruction includes medical office skills, medical
terminology, collecting vital signs, and other basic care-giving techniques for
patients across the life span. The clinical experiences are in various
departments of the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Students completing the Medical
Assistant course are CPR-certified and receive their Medical Assistant
Certification. This program is part of Anne Arundel Community College's Tech
Prep program. Students in this program can earn college credits while attending
high school. Career opportunities are available in hospitals. health maintenance
organizations. extended care facilities, and doctors' offices.
