This program offers students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and
computer skills necessary to launch a career the in the printing, publishing,
and graphic design fields. The power Macintosh and industry-standard desktop
publishing software including QuarkXPress, PageMaker, Photoshop, and
Illustrator are utilized throughout the program.
In computerized Desktop Publishing Level I, students
are introduced to the basic operation of the Power Macintosh computer. Studies
include software applications for word processing, painting, drawing, page
layout, spreadsheets, and presentations. Instructions incorporates proofreading,
typography, color theory, and layout and design principles.
Level II provides students with in-depth study of
publishing, computer graphic design, and the preparations required for
commercial printing. Studies include HTML, web-site design and management,
digital photography, computer animation, and printing and scanning
specifications. Advanced Techniques are applied to presentations and a variety
of publications including brochures, advertisements, flyers, newsletters,
catalogs, and booklets. Completion of this program offers college articulation
credit with Anne Arundel Community College.
