This two-year program focuses on the
construction, configuration, and maintenance of computer networks and the
Internet. It is part of the Cisco Systems International Networking Academy
Program. Cisco Systems' engineers and technicians design the curriculum.
Students work with actual networking equipment and configure Cisco Systems'
routers.
Instruction during the first year includes computer basics followed by
fundamentals of computer networking using the OSI Reference Model. Network
design and construction studies prepare students for constructing an Ethernet
network using basic network hardware.
During the second year, students design, construct, troubleshoot, and
maintain various computer networks and expand their understanding of the OSI
Reference Model. LAN and WAN technologies are presented, and students set up a
WAN using Cisco Systems' routers and learn how to configure them through
extensive hands-on activities. This program is preparatory for accredited
industry-standard networking certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
and students may elect to take the required examination.
