Certified Nursing Assistance:

Nursing Assistant is a one or two semester course for 11th or 12th grade students that is a fundamental part of a Career Completer Program. This course allows students to prepare for an entry level position as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Introduction to Health Careers is a prerequisite course for this program.

Program instruction includes collecting vital signs and other basic care-giving techniques for patients across the life span. The clinical experiences are in assisted living, long-term care, and acute care facilities. Students completing the Nursing Assistant course (including 50+ clinical hours) are CPR certified and receive there Maryland Board of Nursing Certification (CNA). They can also apply the knowledge they have gained to prepare for the State of Maryland Geriatric Nursing Assistant Certification (GNA) examination. Career opportunities are available in hospitals, health maintenance organizations, extended care facilities, home health care, and doctors' offices.
